Upgrading my PC

I've decided that I'm going to upgrade my PC. I'm not running Windows 95 much anymore, as I'm using Windows 2000 a bit more. Currently, I've got an Intel Pentium II 300 MHz processor w/MMX capabilities. For memory, I've only got 64 megs. Personally, I could use a lot more, especially since I'm running Windows 2000. Makes sense, as the OS usually runs super slow, and it's so annoying.

Anyway, what is the highest processor I could upgrade to (given my board)? And how high could I increase my memory. And could you please tell me anything else I need to know?

I think you are out of luck there. I think the highest you could upgrade is 400Mhz processor (that is a guess) and I don't even know where you would get a Pentium II processor. I think you should seriouly consider building or buying a new computer.

what socket is your board? you could probably find an old pentium 2 processor at small computer stores where they pawn old working computer parts. otherwise, i would just build a whole new computer, that system sounds rather aged.

Sounds like if I'd really like to upgrade my PC, I've got to start over from scratch, basically. Does anyone know where I could get a relatively inexpensive motherboard that supports Intel Pentium 4 processors?

I woudl build a new computer, Amd is cheaper then intel. If you really dont feel like making your own or you dont think you can my friend ordered a computer from www.ibuypower.com it runs well and nice only cost him 450 for a 64bit system.

Right now is a good time to build a computer because it seems like prices for everything are very low (rather it is Intel or AMD). And, like Spike said, definitley check out newegg. You could look for parts at zipzoomfly.com as well.

What socket is it? oh no, I think it might be what slot is it? Slot1 or Slot2. The slot format was popular with the proc up untell the came out with the p3, but even then they still had slot.

This will cost about 750 from mwave.com. I really wouldn't suggest going any lower than this simply because the newest technolgies: PCI-Express, 64-bit Processing and Dual Core are all going to become mainstream in the next few years and this motherboard addresses each of those new technologies. (The Dual Core AMD cpu's will be socket 939 and only require a BIOS change). In any case good luck getting a new system.
