Unlocking Cell Phones

Is it possible to manually unlock cell phones so that you can use different sim cards/network providers with that phone, for example if I go abroad and want to use a native sim card, or if one of my parents borrows it, to use their sim card with it?

I know it can be done, and some companies offer to unlock your phone but they will charge you lots of money in return.

I'm looking to buy a Samsung E900, but want to be able to use different sim cards when I go abroad, or perhaps even my current sim card, which would get rid of the hassle of telling everyone my new number and has a better tariff than the one that I am getting with the E900.

Is it possible?

Yes but it requires you to have illegal software to do so, so I would not discuss this on these boards.

You can just buy a phone thats already unlocked (OEM).

Yeh the cellphone that I bought was with a 2 yr plan and a 100 dollar rebate. The two year plan knocked the price for the phone in like half, and then the 100 dollar rebate knocked the price down to about 100 bucks as well. Unlocked V3c It jsut doesnt have a sim spot for it

Well according to the post above, if they don't give you the pin you are within your rights to "break locks to use their handsets with competing carriers"
