[tweak] how to get your computer to boot up faster

hey im starting this new thread to try to help others and myself increase the boot-up time of a computer. i have a computer that takes like 1 minute to boot up thats means 60 WHOLE SECONDS while others have their computers booting up in 30 secs or less. fastest i ever heard of was around 10 sec. so if any of you out there have computers that boot up pretty fast come and get ur advice.

some of the things i know that help are:

1) reduce your color depth to 16 bit on your desktop because i find that 32 bit color is useless and only takes up memory and boot-up time. you can barely tell the difference between them anyways.

2) dont use a desktop image because thats also slows down your boot up time too. set it to none.

3) most of the process and programs that your computer loads at startup are useless. so what i suggest is visit www.answersthatswork.com to find out info on the processes that are being loaded at startup and if they are useless to you then go to start-run-msconfig-startup tab and uncheck those useless processes and programs to stop them from being loaded at startup.

i did all those these and i managed to shave like 10-20 seconds off my boot time but its still slow at 1 min.

so yeah if u guys have any other useful tips be sure to post them.

About 20 seconds, if that with mine. Color depth is set to 32bit, and a wallpaper. But that part of it doesn't count as logging on unless your autologged, which I am not (I log onto my Domain). There's a tip here for MS' Bootvis. It's not supported by them anymore though.

i know more increases performance but i dont think it increases boot up time.

i tried bootvis and it reduced my boot time by about 5-10 secs. its okay i guess but still i am curious to know james how u got ur computer to boot in 20 secs

So basically your telling me to set my colour depth to 16 medium, which sucks on my new 19 lcd. No desktop image? hmmm.. i think i can deal with the 45 second boot time.

hehe mines 20 secs from hitting the "restart button" to logging into my welcome screen 5 more sec for loading shortcuts etc... For faster logins/Fps in games you can disable certain features in the BIOS like... parallel ports, printer ports, haveing cds in your drive, floppies in the drive, serial ports, game ports, if you dont use them... everything is USB nowadays....
