Help with iTunes sync

Discussion in 'iPhone' started by Howard Brazee, Jan 7, 2012.

  1. I just got my first iPhone a couple of days ago. I needed a camera
and the cheapest iPhone 4 was within my budget. I already have a
wi-fi iPad 2, a dot.mac account, and two Macs with Lion.

I set up my iPhone as far as I can the same way as I set up my iPad to
connect with iTunes, but with one exception, iTunes doesn't see it
except when it's plugged into my iMac.

    Info:

My iPhone does see my local network, either by my Mac or upstairs near
my Airport Express. The icon at the top left of my phone shows
Wi-Fi, not 3G. I was even able to play music via my Airport Express
to my stereo from the music app on my iPhone.

But iTunes doesn't see it. I have plugged it into the same recharger
that I use for my iPad. And I have plugged it into the included
recharger right next to my Mac.

When I plug it into my Mac directly, my iTunes sees both my iPad and
    my iPhone.

In Settings/General/iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, it shows me synchronizing when
my iPhone is plugged in directly.

One time, I brought the iPhone to my Mac, and noticed that it showed
up in iTunes (I have iTunes always open in my 2nd monitor). I opened
it and it showed the top half of the Apps page - the File Sharing part
was blank. And I soon got a message saying 'The iPhone "Howard
Brazee's iPhone" could not be synced because the sync session failed
to start.'. Plugging the iPhone in didn't help until I closed and
    reopened iTunes.

From within iTUnes, I see the options checked (same as with my iPad),
[x] Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected
[x] Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi

I'm afraid I shall need to take my Mac & iPad into the Apple Store -
but if someone has some other ideas of what I should look at - please
    help me.

    Thanks.

I plugged my iPhone into a power source and pressed the button. It
looked for my computer for a couple of minutes, then stopped. The
last synced time is still 9:00, which was about when I unplugged it
from my computer to take with me on some errands.

  3. I have an appointment this afternoon at the Apple Store to solve this
    - but for the first time in weeks, I rebooted my Mac. It appears
that rebooting my Mac may have solved the problem. I'll still go, I
    have some other questions.

    I don't reboot very often, as it doesn't reboot well - I think that's
because Chronosync is running in the background with some locks
between my computer and my wife's. Mainly I restart to run file
utility hoping to speed up my computer.
