I dont know much about computers. But this was messing with me on yahoo messenger while i was chatting. Everyone that knew him said I was screwed now. But I took it as they were bluffing. Anyways he told me that when I log out of yahoo my servers are now his.

Is this guy being cocky or is he for real. I guess the only way Ill find out is when I logout huh? I havent logged out yet. Should I? And is their anything I can do to prevent this?

Im stuck im afraid I might be in trouble with this computer geek.

If you personally run a server, what firewall are you using? Noticed anything strange going on?

Personally I wouldn't worry, I've had people say stuff like that many times but mostly it usually some kid who has watched the movie hackers a few to many times. (though I do enjoy that movie for some reason)

You mentioned logging off. I take it, then, that by servers you mean yahoo accounts? I wouldn't worry about them unless you ran a program this person sent you, or they have physical access to your computer.

Most computer geeks are innocuous, and usually they are helpful--this forum is full of us. As has been implied above, this person is probably a hacker-wannabe.

As far as preventative measures go, a firewall certainly wouldn't hurt. You could also change your account password(s). You should also have antivirus software installed, and running full scans of all drives every once in a while is generally recommended.

thanks guys. I dont know what he was trying to do if anything at all. Like I said i dont know much about computers. But he was ranting and raving to other people on voice that as soon as i log off my servers are his. when he first started on it everyone who knew him was like oh your screwed now. and he kept going and going. then he quit and i ran my mouth a little bit to him about him not knowing what he was talking about. and he didint know jack about hacking no ones stuff. he was laughing and everyonesaid log out and youll see. but it wasnt like he was trying to get rid of me. if i logged out and nothing happened then i could just come back in and call him an idiot and say nothing happened.

so i dont know. you guys know more about this stuff than i do. thats why i came on here to ask. sorry for being so uneducated. thanks for everything

there are many idiots on the internet. if you don't know much about computers, i doubt you have a server computer. you're pretty much safe unless like other people said, you ran a program he sent you or clicked on a link.

a while back, someone tried to give me some crap like that while i was playing starcraft just because i was kicking his. he threatened that if i killed any more of his units, my game would crash and my computer won't turn on. since he was the host, i knew there was some kind of map trigger that crashes SC that he might have applied some how. but i have never heard of it screwing up a computer.

i called his bluff and i owned his base. i continued to give it to him in his face. the i hunted down his last SCV hiding in the fog.

as i said, there are many idiots on the internet because their idiocracy is simply rejected in real life.

Ha... starcraft seems to be 80% kids anymore.. snotty, arrogant kids. I haven't played in months.

Last time something like that happened to me, I was on a chatroom discussing linux vs windows with a couple of people and someone walked in and started going on about how this friend of his brothers could hack the fbi and how the cops had shown up at his door. then he started threatening to hack us and when't on about his five or six firewalls ... he was fairly quickly booted

Here's a quick tip:
Real hackers almost never talk about their skills, it's self-incrimination, and chat logs could land them in jail.

exactly, hackers are low profile. directly threatening someone is too big of a risk. they do things quietly. the point of hacking is to be unoticed.
