Svchost on winxp pro
Do I need this to run?
What is this? Why is it taking up so much resources? |

Im in the same shoes as you....do we need it? how come i have multiple instances of it running?

Unless its actually called 'srvhost.exe' or something a lot like it.
Check for these registry keys HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run \Generic Service Process HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Services\Generic Service Process If those entries exsist, you may have a trojan thats been spreading like mad lately called 'phatbot' To remove it, delete those keys and stop srvhost.exe Then reboot, and use the find command to find srvhost.exe and delete it |
