svchost issues
I recently formatted my harddrive, and now when I go online, after about 15 minutes svchost.exe runs the CPU usage up to 100%. I am running a Windows XP Home edition computer with a 40GB hard drive, 512MB of RAM, and an Intel Pentium 4 processer.
I have done several spyware scans with Spybot S&D and virus scans with Norton AntiVirus 2002. The problem has persisted, and is getting to be a real pain. I don't think its the Welcha virus or whatever its called, as I downloaded Symantecs scanner for that worm. Does anyone have any suggestions? Eric |

Hmm, We'll it might be svchost.exe is infected with spyware and it is accessing the web. Looks like there is a program to remove it in the google ad, right below your post (second ad).
EDIT: Looks like the ads change. Here is the site that it linked to.

Okay, this is going to sound wierd, but the problem seems to have been resovled. This means one of things:
1) It was a freak incident which won't happen again. 2) I'm slowly going insane. 3) It was fixed by my disabling of an unnesscary service (I believe it was something to do w/ Plug 'n Play) 4) Spy Sweeper, installed by my dad, got it, 5) It just...er...resolved itself...somehow. Oh, yeah, and btw, Phil, that site you linked me to was a site for nothing more than a program that appeared to be based off of Ad-Aware. For example, the scanning screen, besides the fact that it was red, instead of the blue of AA, looked almost the same. The only problem was that Adware-Spy (the program that the site was for) wasn't exactly free. It would allow you to scan you harddrive for spyware, adware, malware or whatever, but would force you to register (which cost money, which I don't have) to remove it. Crappy, huh? So, sorry to have bothered you, Eric
