SuSE 8.2 is worthless

SuSE 8.2 is terrible. It is the worst distribution I've ever installed. I highly recommend avoiding it. Here's where the trouble started. First off, you have to know the IP address of the FTP server you're installing from. So I have to boot into the install program, find that out after 5 minutes, the reboot back to Slack and do a traceroute back to GeorgiaTech's FTP page. Then I reboot. Did I mention floppies are really slow? After doing an OS install from CD's many times, going back to floppies seems ridiculously slow. It took like 5 minutes to boot the kernel! Then I continue, only to find out I need to know what modules I need. Even Arch autodetected mine, and it's supposed to be an advanced distro. SuSE is for newbies! Reboot again and do an lsmod. Finally I'm able to get into the actual setup program. It's stuck in 1280x1024, a resolution my monitor can't handle. So a third of the page is off the screen. Oh well, I'll just keep hitting next. The installation to 2 and a half hours on broadband. That's the same as Gentoo on this system, and Gentoo was compiled directly on it. I finally get to reboot and have to get on the Internet to do some homework. I would assume that in the almost-3-hour install it would have configured everything. No. I have to do it now with YaST, which equals CrAP. It is so annoying. I'd much rather be editing the config files by hand. It's a lot quicker, especially if you know what you're doing and are in a rush. Oh yeah, it also installs KDE, and I deselected it during the install. Yet still it's installed, which sucks because KDE sucks and it screws up your whole system. My resolution is still stuck at 1280 x 1024, so I can't see half my screen, and for some reason YaST won't let me change it. Even if I edit /etc/X11/XF86Config, YaST edits it back to it's original state. The only good things were that it autmatically detected my onboard nForce2 sound, and it has a very nice looking (yet slow) install and boot. I can't wait until I review this on my site. It's going to be the first distro to earn less than an 8 out of 10 (I'm thinkin' maybe a 3?). Stay away from SuSE. It's got a harder install than Arch or Gentoo, yet is newbified beyond use upon reboot.
