squeezing every last bit of juice from onboard graphics

hey guys, I have my laptop with me, and I love playing HL2, but the onboard graphics is shared memory (ARRRGGGG! I know) and I am wondering if you guys know how to get that last little bit of juice from the grapics card in my laptop:
memory: 512MB
Graphics: intel 915gm/gms 910gml express Shared
Oh, and the model is a presario V4000

thanks people

Its going to be tough since you have Intel onboard graphics. Nvidia and ATI both have high performance video drivers that are maintained by the community, but Intel does not. The best thing you can do is
1) Install newest Intel video drivers
and
2) Install newest version of DirectX.
I know thats not a real answer, but onboard video doesn't give you a lot of room for squeezing and maximizing.

You could also create a new account on XP, disable all GUI options such as setting the theme to classic, disable fade effects, etc. You can do this by going to System Properties | Advanced | Performance Settings.

Reboot, log on with that account and that may help a little bit.

^^^to add to jame's solution, you could also disable a lot more services in an account dedicated to gaming.

thanks, I've updated the intel drivers/directx files etc...

If I play HL2 in a window at lowest res, It kinda runs ok-ish, but I'll give it a try on a seperate account. When I get my macbook pro, and install bootcamp, then I think it'll work really well.
