Spyware Doctor's Updates

I just installed Spyware Doctor the other day and it seems like on an every day basis there's an update of the SD Database. That's fine but, these updates are like 4-4.5mb's which seems a bit large for an every day or so update. Pretty soon we're going to be up to a full gig of updates! Is this normal?

From a quick google search, Spyware Docotor isn't a great anti-spyware program. If you're going to install something, I recommend either the Windows AntiSpyware (should be a link under Handy Tools) or AdAware.
As for the updates-its quite possible that that is a normal size. Probably what the program is doing is downloading the complete database every time there is an update instead of just the changed bits. I doubt it will take up a gig on your computer, just download time.

I had heard good things about SD and in fact, uninstalled SpySweeper in favor of it. I put SS on CD just in case I changed my mind, though. I do have AdAware, Spybot, a-squared, BoClean, WinPatrol, Spyware Blaster, ZA Pro and a Linksys Router. Think I'm safe enough?

If I am uncertain about what I am about to view or download, I usually pull it up on my laptop first. Overall Spyware Blaster is a top notch program all by its self. When I do need to scan for spyware I use Ad-Aware and AVG Spyware.

Honestly, I do not think that you need that many scanners. (Some of which I have never heard of)

Well, Goober, some of those programs run in the background and are not just scanners like, WinPatrol and BoClean. Those are like American express...wouldn't turn on the computer without them! No telling how many trojans and keyloggers they've stopped. I believe in having layers of protection in the cyber world we have today as they're too many out there with a mind **** bent on getting to you to steal information about your banking account, credit card fraud, etc. I believe in using "enough gun" to stymie this.

I use the dirty box concept. Get a questionable file. Scan it with 3 anti-viruses and 4 spyware tools on a Linux box. Then hand carry it to my normal machine and do another scan on that machine. Keeps me clean, until my roommate gets on the net... so I removed his account on my net.
