Something weird with Touchpad on my dell laptop

I have a Dell Latitude D600 and it has a problem with the Touch pad freaking out at times. I wont even touch it and sometimes and the cursor will just drift up and down. Then when I want to move it it stills wants to drift up making it hard to move and click on stuff using the touch pad. Is there a certain driver that is needed to correct this made by dell or any other company?

Try turning off the little mouse nub thing above the track pad in the mouse settings.

also, this can happen with my compaq when I have hibernated about 6-odd times, try shutting down completely and restarting (if you've been hibernating instead of shutting down)

Reinstall the track pad drivers. You can probably find them on the dell support site. Otherwise, try cleaning the surface too. The little nub could also be the culprit as someone else has mentioned.

You may want to clean it as well. Check your manual for instructions on the proper cleaning procedue. Oil's will build up on the pad and cause all sorts of oddness.
