Solid Software Firewalls...

Hey Guys,
I just got a new laptop and want to ditch the McAfee suite that came with it. I'll probably go with AVG free, but wasn't sure which Firewall to go with. I used Comodo on my old machine and before that I used ZoneAlarm. I've also heard things about other products that some seem to prefer. Anything I should know about the ones I've mentioned or any others?

Thanks.

Zone Alarm and BlackIce are good free ones. If you are behind a router of some sort, then Windows firewall will suffice.

ZoneAlarm works quite well.

Personally, if you have a router, NAT will be fine. None of my computers have firewalls, my router handles all of that.

But, if you want a software firewall then go with the Windows firewall, if you need something that can be configured in depth, try Blackice.

I googled BlackIce and found that it's 39.99. Is that the one you refer to?

It's like ZoneAlarm. There is a free version, then there is a version that you have to pay for.

Just be forewarned that some firewalls (ZoneAlarm has done this in the past) if you uninstall them will not remove their settings. Although this can be seen as a good thing security wise, it will break new software unless you do a OS reload. FYI.

I would just enable Windows Firewall. It's actually better than people credit it for.
