Scanning over network?

A client of mine is setting up a new office, and wants a printer on the network. We are getting the HP Officejet 6310. My question is this: if we plug an ethernet cable into the printer, can we scan over the network, or will we have to connect the printer to USB and then share the printer?

I know that our old HP had a "scan to PC" option and it gave you a list of which ever pc's where networked with the scanner (and had all the drivers and such). I imagine you should beable to scan from software on the different computers as well but to be honest I've never tried with that particular printer

I've done it, but it takes a bit of configuration. I don't remember the specifics though.

It all depends on the printer.
A lot of the HP's rely on a really klunky program you have to install that isn't supported on anything but Windows XP SP1 and below.
Almost all of them have a scan to email option that you can setup through the front panel that works pretty well.
