Radeon 8500 Problem????????

Ok people, this is my first post so bear with me, im just learning here. I am having problems with the video (for lack of a better term) lagging, meaning its blocky and and doesnt keep up. I have installed the newest driver and it still didnt help. It does the same on DVD's also. Ive messed around with the ATI control panel and it doesnt help either, so they are back to default. In say Delta Force 2 it so bad the cusor is even blocky when running across the screen. Im running 800x600 at 60Hz on 32bit color and it doesnt do anything by going down to 16bit. Any suggestions? I wouldnt think cards can gradually die, they would go out completely correct? Let me what else I should check. Im green but im a fast study. Thanks.

What OS do you have? Do you have DirectX 9.0b? In the ATI Control Panel, what do you have set for OpenGL? Is this the AGP or PCI version of the card?

The graphics are choppy? Jaggy or just choppy when moving? What settings do you have inside the game options? That card shouldn't have an issue with jaggies.

I can set everything in the games on high and as long as im not moving they look great but once I start moving movement gets choppy and when there is aloy of action going on its worse. If I put the graphics setting way down it get alittle better but not much. I just tried C&C Renegade and its the same thing, even the game movies are choppy and the sound cuts in and out as it gets choppy. Thanks for the reply James.

That's weird, it may be the celeron that you have, but probably not. Because I could play Half-life in a PIII 500 with a Radeon 64 DDR on my old PC and it looked good.

Go to Start | Run | dxdiag

Run the video tests.

Hmm, I don't understand what the problem would be then. Do you have any other cards to test out?

It's possible, but it's hard to tell. Remove the drivers for your 8500 and remove the card, then try the Rage with the correct drivers. I had this card in an older PC and DVD's looked really good and not choppy. Maybe this will determine if it's the card or something else.
