Quicktime to mpeg and reduced file size

I recently received a Quicktime video clip that I wish to upload to a web site. However, the file was created in MAC OS X or .mov format and I am working on a PC. How can I convert it to .mpeg format? Or is that even necessary? Also, file size is 4.13 MB and I was hoping to reduce it further if possible. Cannot figure out how to do this with programs I currently have (ImageReady CS, Photoshop CS, Macromedia Flash). As an alternative, can I simply upload the file as is and create a link to it?

i think by 'as is' means as it is as a .mov file.

you could upload the file, but you still wouldn't be able to view it

with a program like premiere, you can import the file, then export the file as .mpg
premiere is pricy though, if you send me the file, i could convert it for you, as i have premiere

also, imageready and photoshop are image manipulators, not video editing software

If you upload the file onto your FTP server as the file type it is. Then create a link to the file. When clicked it will download it from your FTP Server space to the users computer. If it is only 4 megs then it should be downloadable by everyone. You may want to mention though that you will require Quicktime to play it. However that is free software and is easily downloadable from the Apple MAC website. This is the simplest solution in my opinion

I did finally get the .mov file on the web site at http://www.handcarveddoors.com/interview2004.html using GoLive's object palette for plug-ins. However, even with my wi-fi connection, it still takes considerable time to download for playing. Actual play time is just over 3 minutes and file size is currently 4.1 meg. That's going to create a pretty frustrating wait time for most any viewer. Is it possible to downsize it any further?

If you make it any smaller the quality is going to go to crap.

load time

Phil,

Could you give me an estimate on just how long it took to download for you?
A friend of mine who has high speed access where he works says was within 1 1/2 minutes - - to me ,that's mighty long time.
My connection download time is around 20 seconds.
