Question : Downloading Games
Hey guys .. didn't know where to put this
but I was wondering if anyone has had experiance with sites like Direct 2 Drive where you can purchase and legally download games cheaper than going to the store and picking up a boxed version. (though I like getting the box and cover art and everything ... but thats another discussion entirely). I've used Steam to buy a few games but thats about it.

A friend used Direct 2 Drive to get a copy of World of Warcraft. Seemed to work fine, just slow... Well the game is ~2GB, so I'm sure it wasn't the site's fault.

I've used them once. It was an okay experience. I don't think the prices on newer games are all that hot. The download was reasoably fast.

As mentioned, for not getting a physical copy of the game or manual, the price difference isn't wonderful.
Also, last I checked you weren't able to use the standard patches for the game; you have to wait until D2D comes out with their version of the patch. |

I think that depends on the game.

Hmm, that doesn't sound to great ... but realistically I have to drive atleast 30min to get to a store to buy video games so its definitely cheaper even if not by much. Any idea of what happens if you know I loose all my files? lol can I burn the games to discs?
(Are there better places than D2D?)

Of all the services of this kind, D2D has been the only one that I felt was trustworthy enough to try. My experience was not bad. If you won't need the manual, and are good at keeping things stored, use 'em. Might keep that patch thing in mind though. The game description usually goes into detail about whether you can patch it normally or whether you will have to use D2D's patches.

I got WoW from D2D, since it was such a large file, I just started the download and went to bed. And it included the game manual in PDF form, I would think that most of the other games they offer would be the same?
Also, WoW patched normally through Blizzard. |
