Programming computer question

I just got my new Antec sonata case and 80gb seagate sata drive. I am trying to get any operating system on there that I can but I have been unsuccessful. I have tried putting Windows XP Home on first. I put in the CD and it loads all of the initial drivers then it says "starting Windows setup" and it just stops. This same problem also happened when using windows 2000. I tried Windows 98 as well. Here I could format the drive create and delete partitions without a problem, but when I ran the W98 setup it said it was copying the files to hard drive and then it said to restart the computer. When I restarted it asked if I wanted to boot from HD or CD. If I chose HD it said to replace with a valid disk, and if i chose CD it just repeated the W98 setup. So...I am wondering what is going on. Also, what are the symtoms of a bad processor. Thanks for any info. Dave

Have you formatted the HD to NTFS format before trying to install Windows XP?

Yes. And when I tried to install 98 I formated it to fat32. Also I should add that I tried doing all the things above to the my old hard drive with no success as well.

Edit: No. I take that back, I never could get that far. It would say starting windows setup and then just quit.

I basically took everything out and put it back together (reseated the RAM, processor, ect.). Had a little trouble figuring out how to install XP with a SATA drive but I got it figured out eventually.
