problems with system restart

My computer has been having a problem.

When I start my computer it starts but I get this message -

The lost attempt to restore the system from its previous location failed. Attempt to restart again?

It gives me these two choices:

Delete the restoration data and proceed to system boot menu

Continue with system restart

I have tried to continue with system restart. It appears to be trying to restart or something but nothing happens. I have not tried the first option because I don't understand what it means by deleting the restoration data and going to the boot menu,lol. I just want to make sure I'm not going to do anything thats going to ruin my comp..... so please help!

I have a Toshiba laptop with 256 ram and my operating system is windows XP. I used my comp last night and it worked perfectly fine until this morning. I do not remember trying to restart my computer or messing with it, I just went online.

First off, welcome to THQ.

You may safely go with the option to delete the restoration data. What happens is some times when windows goes into hibernation it saves information to a certain file (hiberfil.sys, if you care to know). Upon the next boot up the computer will look for that file and initiates the process. Some times when windows compiles the hibernation file it screws up when trying to read the memory.

Unfortunately if you were working on any files and did not save, they will be lost.
