Problem with windows 98 reinstall

I just reformatted my windows 98 and im trying to reinstall windows, but when I try to get into my cdrom drive, it says its not there. I cant reinstall windows.

I tryed starting it with CD Support and it just freezes up. I get this error message.
The following file is missing or corrupted: OAKCDROM.SYS
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 10

When I dont use cd support and I get to the A: thing in dos. It wont let me get into my D: drive. Any help would be apprecated! Thanks

Go to bootdisk.com and download the Windows 98 boot disk maker, boot with it. Run Fdisk to delete your partitions. Then reboot with the disk and try to get to your CD-ROM drive to run the install.

Once you're booted with the 98 boot disk, at the prompt type fdisk, select yes, and I think the option is 3, delete all partitions so there's nothing left.

Then either try to boot from your 98 CD or the boot disk with CD-ROM support and switch to your CD drive and run the setup.

I did what you told me to do with the Fdisk. Now it says I have a overflood problem when I try to start with cd support.

Then when I try to start without cd support, and use the boot disk, I can access C: drive or D:

How should I install windows without being able to access either? All I can access is my floopy drive. A:

Can I do anything there to help install windows?

The steps I take are, turn the computer on, then choose boot from CD-ROM, after that I choose Start Windows 98 Setup from CD-ROM. After I choose that one it takes awhile to show the error, I would say about 8 to 10 mins This is the error. This time the overflood thing didnt come up this time.
The following file is missing or corrupted: OAKCDROM.SYS
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 10

After that, I restart and try to start it without CD support, and try to do something with the A: drive and I cant access anything. SO I really cant do anything?

Any ideas!? thanks for the help so far!

Sounds like you have a scratched CD. Is this the original CD? How's its surface look?

When you boot w/o CD support, from A, cd d: then run setup.exe

What happens?

CD is fine, and it is the original.

I cant even access The CDROM Drive (D: ). I try to and it says Invalid drive specification.

When I try to access The C drive (C: ) It says General failure reading drive C

Its annoying. Lol

Try other drives, E. Sometimes D is set as a virtual drive. If your drive is having issues reading your 98 CD, then there may be an option. Can you read it fine from the PC you are posting from?
