Printer Problem

I hope someone can help me.... I'm out of ideas....
So... I have a Canon BJC 4300ex printer, my ink cartridge has been empty for a while. I got a new one (black). Now, all my pages come out with incomplete text, like it's not getting enough ink. It seems to be printing only the top and bottom half of the lines of text, and imperfectly at that. Here's what I've done so far...

1. Cleaned the print head both automatically AND manually
2. Cleaned the cartridge holder manually
3. Changed the print settings from color to monochrome
4. Yelled at the printer.........
5. Double checked my document to be sure the font color was set to black.
6. Removed the printer and drivers, and reinstalled both.
7. Changed my printer graphics settings (everything)
8. Banged my head on the desk for a couple of minutes....
9. Came here and posted this cuz I'm out of all ideas except one... That I bought a faulty print cartridge.

Anyone have any ideas what's wrong here? Help?

Well, it looks like you did everything I would of thought to do. I had a customer swear up and down that she had put the new black cartridge in, and I did what you did, come to find out, she had the empty one in there.

I would try shaking the cartridge (in a bag), if that doesn't work, exchange it. If that doesn't work, then it could be your carrage.

You can clean it till the cows come home but if the calibration is off, it won't do much good. Check your printer software for calibration option. Might help, might not.
