Print server

I have just had an old Epson Stylus 640 from my feind, I mean friend, and i was thinking about turning Shorty, my second computer into a print server, to free up resources on Beast, my main comp.

beast and shorty are currently on a p2p network, and shorty has win98, 455 mhz processor, and 64 MB Ram i think.

Any ideas are welcome people, thanks

nick

I really dont see how it will free up resources, unless there are a bunch of print batches going through your computer and its getting on your nerves or somthing.

it doesnt really bother me on the beast, it does on the family computer, when i send a PS file to print, and it takes 5 mins to get any kind of performance back, it was just a wondering really. there are now 2 printers in my house, an HP 610C on the family comp, and an Epson Stylus 640 for the beast, but still not connected

Just install the printer(s) on the other computer, share them and than add the printers on the clients via Add New Printer | Local port | \\shorty\sharename

No hubs ONLY switches

Save yourself the headache and dont throw any money into buying a "hub". Buy a Router with built in switch and WAP (Wireless Access Point). The costs have come down so low and with many manufacturers offer big rebates. The laptop you purchase will more than likely have a wireless card already embedded and if it dosent then keep that in mind when purchasing the Router, some makers like Linksys - AKA Cisco's SOHO market and Netgear offer some packages with wireless cards included (USB/PC Card slot).
