The way I do AOL is to use any kind of network connection to sign into
AOL with the main account ScreenName and password. Then in AOL go to Add
another User/Account, setup an unrestricted Account screenName, I
frequently use their MainScreenName_router (with the _router added to
remind them/you not to remove the screenname) and give it a password.

Then in the Netgear in the username enter (E-Mail Removed)
and the password. See if router connects.

If so start AOL and sign in using Broadband with MainScreenName.

In effect your making a screenname for the router that isn't used for
anything other than authenticating the router to AOLs ADSL

The other thing to watch with AOL is that the router MTU is set to 1400
or things like Messenger won't work.

If her line has been activated by AOL then she should have a main
account screenname and password. She must have contacted AOL somehow or
how else did she get the line activated?

Get her to ring AOL, give the phone line number that has ADSL and ask
them for the main account screenname & pass.

I think you have to ring AOL yourself, to understand what has happened.

How do you know that the line has been actvated? Does the router show ADSL
sync?

My experience with helping friends to connect to Onetel, then convert to
Talktalk and also connecting to Tiscali, is that the only way to achieve
anything is to visit the person carrying a bag of likely cables, read
all the stuff that they have been sent and then prepare a list of
questions for the helpline.

It is really only the experiences with these ISP's that has caused me to
stay with Demon. The way a lot of these ISP's seem to produce helper
CD's that make everything so obscure makes me despair of the computing
business.

With the friend who wanted his Onetel username retained when he moved to
Talktalk (they are now the same company), we are reduced to emailing
numbered emails back and forth to check that emails are not getting
lost.

The initial experience some years back with Onetel was amazing. Only
when we rang were we told that the letter they sent out was wrong and
the username they stated in the letter should have any periods replaced
by underscores before it would be recognised.

None of this helps with AOL, of course!
