notebook charging problems

My financial aid loaned me a dell notebook to use for college, but theres a problem with it. When I use it plugged in, it still uses the power from the battery. The only way it will switch to using power from the outlet is if I take the battery out. What can I do to fix this?

Have you gone into Control Panel, and looked at the Power Saving options? I think you can force it to run on the battery in there, and that might be selected.

maybe its automatically collaborating you battery, though this is very unlikely. what this does is when you plug your laptop into your wall outlet, the battery completly discharges and then recharges until its full. this is suppose to make the battery last longer with your laptop. just check to make sure that the battery collaboration isn't a scheduled task.

Are you sure it's using the battery still? Check the Power Options, there should be a sheet for the battery and will tell you what it's doing.

When I got home the other day the problem had stopped. I cant explain it, I did not change anything. Now it switches to using the outlets power right when I plug it in. Thanks for the help anyway though guys.
