Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Issue

Ok, so recently my Norton Anti-virus 2004 refuses to let me turn on auto update or auto protect. I go into options, enable it, say ok, go back into options and it's unchecked! like i never enabled it! gah! I can't seem to fix it....so anyone have any suggestions?

Only thing I can think of is if a virus has disabled this. Did you try this in Safe Mode? Try removing it and reinstalling.

It wouldn't have been his subscription I think that would only disable updates. Um yes it may indeed be a virus but are you sure after you check it there isn't a command button to push? that says Ok or Cancel etc.
