No audio
The audio on my computer stopped working. My computer says that there is no sound card installed, but I'm using onboard audio.
There is an "unknown device" that doesn't have a driver installed under sound/video/game controllers in the device manager. When I try to install the driver, the install wizard says the device is Microsoft Kernel System Rederer. It says the location of the driver file is C:\WINDOWS\INF\WDMAUDIO.INF. It then wants the windows 98 CD, but says it can't find the file ksuser.dll on the CD. Awhile ago I had this same problem, which I had fixed in a repair shop. Could a virus have stopped the sound from working? Also, I get an "error starting program" message when I start my computer. It says it's missing the file psapi.dll. I downloaded this file into windows\system, but I still get an error message. Is this error related to the sound problem? Would the audio work smoother if I installed a sound card, instead of using the onboard audio? |

You may or may not have spyware. Try Ad-Aware. I couldn't find a whole lot on that file, just that it may be spyware (CoolWebSearch).
As for the Audio, remove unknown device and reboot, see if that helps with installing the driver. What onboard sound device do you have? |

![]() Also, my onboard audio card started being a pain a few months ago, so I went and Got myself a new Creative Audio 5.1 PCI audio card and I must say the sound quality is definantly better than my onboard sound card, so I would suggest getting a new audio card and just disabling the use of the onboard one ![]() http://www33.brinkster.com/saturnmod/wdmaudio.inf

I have an AC97 onboard sound device.
I tried removing the unknown device and rebooting, but I still can't install the driver. |

I've noticed before that onboard sound will just stop working sometimes. I've had it happan on a couple of boards. My advice is just to go buy a sound card. If you're used to onboard audio, you don't need anything fancy, you'll probably be able to pick something up for like 20 bucks.
