New fan installation (PCI slots?)

Hello all. I put in a new thermaltake cooler on my amdxp2500. The install was pretty easy. The install didn't call for paste or grease so I didn't use any is that okay? Its already running 5-6 degrees celcius cooler. The fan control is supposed be installed in a open pci slot. Based on the size of this control I can't find anywhere this might ffit let alone screw into. This is on the m/b right? Was looking for pics of pci slots but couldn't find any. Any advice would be helpful.

Its okay as long as there was a THEMAL PAD on the heatsink. But if there wasnt than you MUST HAVE GREASE OR A PAD!!! You could very badly damage your cpu if there is no interface meterial.

You could also possably take the contorl part out of the PCI slot and just cut a hole or somthing to teh front of your computer. Its very inconvinant to be turning speed by reaching behind your computer. But if i were you id leave the thing running at full rpms just to keep it cool but thats me

The place the fan controler fits in is on the back of the motherboard. If you look inside the case you will see white slots towards the back. If you look at the case next to the white slots you will see pieces of removable metal. If you unscrew one, you can take thatcover off, and insert your fan control module, then replace the screw.

Cool guys, thanks for the replies. I will get some grease or a thermal pad directly. Which do you recommend? My local shop has some kind of grease which is almost all silver and is supposed to conduct heat extremely well. They get 8 bucks for a small tube. I don't mind paying for good products but is that more than I would need? Thanks for the pci explanation. If I wanted to get some extra fans to run in the case for better airflow, where do I hook them up to the Mainboard or the Powersource? Not sure about that. I only see the one hookup on the m/b for the processor fan.

Okay artic silver 5 applied and heatsink and fan reinstalled. I'm running about 34 C. Think all is well. Put the controller in the empty pci slot (once I realized what I was looking at) like butter. Thanks again. Any help with extra fans though? Or would this be counter productive?

If your machine is running well, why mess with it?

Is 47 celsius under load too hot? I know over 50 is not good but am I going to shorten the life of my cpu if it runs that warm while playing games and such? I was thinking of putting in another fan to help airflow in the case. R2 checked your page, cool comp. What kind of paint is that? Did your case come with the fan hole on top?

If its under 50, don't worry about it. It won't shorten the CPU's lifespan unless it has some inherent flaw.
