Ive recently gotten a network adapter for my ps2 and have been wondering. I connected my modem directly into the network adapter and it worked fine, but when I plugged it back into my computer it had reset my ip so I had to call my ISP and have them give me a new one.

So I was wondering, aside from bugging my ISP every time I play my ps2 online, if there was a way to prevent this from happening by giving it a separate connection setting or re inputting the settings before using it.

I was told I need to get a router for this and wonder if there was any way around this as I have had several bad experiences with routers.

I don't see why you'd have to call your ISP. Did you reboot the modem and release and renew an IP for your PC?

A router would be easier too. Check www.smc.com for decent home routers.

I think he is disconnecting the modem from his computer and than into the Network Adapter. On some cable modems i think the ip is reset every time you reconnect? dosnt happen to mine...And yes if you dont whant to keep on reconnecting your cables a router/hub might be a good idea....

Just purchase a Linksys router. They're very easy to use, and very reliable. They come with excellent instructions, and manuals. Also, they're tech support is excellent, and they are happy to guide you through any problems you might have.

I have a Linksys 2.4 GHz Wireless-B Broadband Router and have had no trouble with it.

I have had a wired version of their router, and now I have the 802.11G wireless/wired router. They're a joy to work with on a small time basis.

Mine is wireless/wired also. So is the G much better? What type of connection do you have? How many computers do you have on your network?

We generally have 3 using the wireless, and sometimes 2-3 using the wired part. We have cable internet, and we get download speeds of around 400 kpbs. I don't knowhow much faster G is, because only one of the wireless nodes has an 802.11G so its forced to work in B mode. But it works fine.
