hello,

I hope somebody can help me

I have to switch between networks several times a week.
Now I'm familiar with the netsh.exe format and used it to back-up my settings into a script. ie: netsh -c interface dump > c:\home.txt.

As technology advances I went up the ladder from XP to WIndows 7 and here the problem starts.
When i use the netsh dump command in Windows 7 it creates the script but it does not mention the dns servers as it did in WinXP.

I have my IPv4 settings set to static (DHCP on router disabled)

Using the command 'netsh int ip dump > c:\home.txt' in Win7 nor 'netsh dump > c:\home.txt' give the dns servers.

The command 'netsh int ip show dnsservers' works ok

anyone know the right command to get all of my settings into a script?

thanks in advance

Ian or Crypto may know... You could look up your dns servers on the modem too.

If this is for wireless you could set up different profiles for the different networks.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately exporting wlan profiles is not the answer.
The DNS addresses are known, but just to make things easy and run the netsh command instead of adding the dns manually I would like to know how to dump all of the settings.

  • If the interface is already statically configured, the static parameter replaces the existing list of DNS server addresses with the one specified in the command.
  • Only if the [source] is static is the [addr] option available for configuring a static list of DNS server IP addresses for the specified interface.
That is the best answer I could find. I am not intimate with the netsh tool.

This is the website I found that on. You may be able to read over it and find a better answer.

Here is the root link for the netsh tool.

I hope this helps.

Apparently since the introduction of the new features in Netsh as from WinVista the Netsh dump command has lost some functionality ie. no dns addresses are dumped into a configuration script, which seems odd as this defies the whole purpose of the command.
I have posted a similar question on Microsoft's Technet, but they don't know either.

Thank you for your kind replies
