So I am kind of scratching my head with this one. First, how my network is set up. It is pretty simple: Cable Modem > D-Link Router > Via wire to 2 other computers.

What I did was replace that D-Link Router with a Linksys WRT54G (which is a wireless router). I left one of the computers on a wire and the other computer I installed a wireless network card. This setup worked fine for a day. Both computer were able to download large files at normal speeds...everything was great.

Then the next day I came home from a hard day's work at the golf course and clicked on my FireFox icon...nothing happened. Well after restarting the router and modem a few times I concluded that the Linksys router was not working (wired or wireless). I plugged the D-Link router back in and everything worked great.

So tonight, in an attempt to not annoy my dad, I plugged the router into my connection that would normally go to my computer (Belkin Cable modem > D-Link Router > Linksys Wireless Router > My computer via wireless. Everything works. I am currently posting this from a wireless connection. I don't understand what is going on. Just before this I tried replacing that D-Link router with the Linksys router (just like I had before) and it was still not working via a wire.

Sorry for the somewhat lengthy post.

Edit: I should add, all computers are running Windows XP.

Eh...never mind. I decided I would just leave my D-Link router connected and run the Linksys through it. Every thing works fine that way.

I did read this and it had me kind of stumped.

I am much better at fixing things when I can actually put my hands on them, sorry

Yeah, I know what you mean. It is a hard problem to solve when you can't acutally see the setup. It really doesn't matter, though, because everything works, and that is all I wanted.

If the router is still under warranty, take it back and swap it out. I also have a Linksys WRT54G. It's a good router. Stranegly though, you posted this the day after I had internet troubles. Cox swore up and down it was my equipment. Obviously not.

It is still under warranty and I did get a two year extended warranty through newegg so I am good as far as that goes. I had another small hiccup with it today so I am going to give it a few more days and if I have more problems I am going to send it back.

It has been flawless for the past week and a half. I have a theory that it had something with me using Windows Vista where I had to connect to the wireless network under a different OS, but using the same computer. However, I am really not sure and just glad that it has been working well.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I recently bought a WRT54GL and flashed it with the modified DD-WRT firmware.

I love it

What model of Linksys? There are some with some serious bugs and Linksys don't care. WRK54G, locks up based on traffic (often when viewing videos from sites like MSNBC) Have to power cycle it to get it out of brick mode.

WRT54GS - won't bridge some non IP protocols from wireless to wired side of LAN. Again linksys don't give a dang, took that one back also.

Right now I'm looking a Netgear or D-link or Buffalo Air options, as I have purchased my last link*****.
