Networking with XP

Hi everyone!

At the moment I am trying to get my AMD Athlon 1.7 that is running MS Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1 to see my Pentium 166 that is running MS Windows 98 SE. I CANNOT DO IT! I can't even ping the AMD or vice versa! And I know that the network cards work in both computers as I have tried them in other computers and they HAVE Worked! I origionally had the connection going once but then my CMOS Battery in the p166 died and so I got a new one and because of all the trouble I decided to format c: drive and start installing windows 98 SE from scratch. (very annoying) But as I say, now I cannot ping, share files, see, print to\from the p166 and the AMD can't see the p166 or any thing to do with it. And again I know that the NICs are working because In my 8-port switch the lights for LINK are glowing.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

NOTE: I have NOT run the XP Network setup wizard on the p166 cause before the battery died, it was all working and I didn't have to run the network setup wizard at all!

First we have to make sure both PC's are on the same subnet, if your not, w/o proper routing they won't be able to talk (ping) to each other.

So, on the XP box, go to Start | Run | cmd | ipconfig and paste what you have.

On the older PC, go to Start | Run | command | winipcfg and paste what you have.

Also, what do you have configured for the NetBIOS names for each PC?
