Do you want to become a network administrator doing what?
There are many types of network admins. I do network installs and administration, and I have no certs, and no degrees at the moment. All i have is experience-and lots of it.

Certs help get your foot in the door, some companies like for you to have them others require them and then there are some that don't care. It used to be that if you had an MCSE you'd be making a heck of a lot more money than a guy who didn't have one, but it's not the case anymore with the economy like it is.

Experience is the key however...
