how to make home dvds

hi, i got a sony handycam that records video directly to a 30 minute dvd , well the question is, how can i record the dvd to my computer, and store it, and then record more dvds from the camera, and then burn it all into a 4.7 dvd media disc , for example 30 minutes times 4 (4 different videos) equals 2 hrs, exactly the 4.7 gb ?
am i clear?

There is an issuse here:
The compression - It's not set in stone that 2hrs = 4.7GB, The more uncomressed the movies are, the less time you can have on a dvd.

I'll have a look around for some programs that can rip dvd sequenes to the HDD, I know there are some, but none come to mind at present

Do a search for DVD Shrink.

Best Program for this out there.

You can rip it and store it ona space in your HDD.

But then you'd need another program to convert all the .VOB files it gives to go onto a 4.7GB DVD. (because it'll keep trying to replace the .VOB files form each DVD you have ripped, so you'd need to rip each DVD to a seperate folder then use the following program that can add other .VOB's together to encode a DVD)

Which I would recommend WinAVI for - version 7

thanks S Walch, but i got a problem now, i converted all the vob files of one dvd, but only the first part, (it converted like 8 avi parts from 1 vob) only the first part has sound, the others are missing it. what can i do?
and another question..
is there a way to edit or modify the .ifo files? because they are like the principal dvd files , arent them? because with nero, i cant make a compilation , of different vob files with one video_ts.ifo file
thanks for helping me
