Installing wireless network card on Ubuntu
tried following the instructions at http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/m...p/Installation to install ndiswrapper in order to install the drivers need for the card (which I've already got from..somehwere I can't be bothered finding the link for)
Managed to get down to "make" and then it says something about not finding kernel etc, so now I'm compete stuck as to what I'm supposed to be doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated *linux noob!*

:O
This is an old post. I take it you have a broadcom chipset for your wireless card? All you have to do is: Code:
sudo ndiswrapper -i /location_of_file/bcmwl5.inf sudo nodprobe ndiswrapper you can type in: Code:
sudo ndiswrapper -l Code:
sudo ndiswrapper -i /location_of_file/driver_name.inf From there you can configure your card by the wireless configuration menus. You shouldn't have to use the make command because Ubuntu already has a version of ndiswrapper already installed. Maybe this will get you back into Linux ![]()

Sorry to resurrect such an old post, but thanks for that Goober.
I do actually have Ubuntu installed on my main machine now - currently getting more used to it. It's alctually not as had as I thought it was going to be.

I actually use OpenSUSE at work, but I use FreeBSD on any serious business machines. OS X for the desktop, and FreeBSD in the server cage is the perfect combo.

Yeh I've been afk for a while... I forget what version that contains near native wireless setup for most wireless cards (Gutsy I think) where all you have to do is install the OS and you should be ready to go.

Now i've upgraded to actual debian, and trying to install the same wireless card this way.
Unfortunately, I don't think there's a 64-bit driver for it, so I don't think I can install it on my 64 bit debian ![]() Methinks I need a new wireless card If I want to be able to use anything linux wise...

No, I had the 64 bit version of Ubuntu on my lappy and it worked just fine. Keep searching I know the answer is out there. If I have anytime I'll look for some info.

I found an answer:
Buy a few Homeplugs, and use the onboard ethernet. All internet troubles will then disappear ![]()
