im confused

I tryed to set another computer up online. i gave it a ip address and dns stuff but i cant go to any website. when i go to network connections and click "Local area connection status" it says status connected, and under activity it says packets: 122 sent, recieved 30. I dont know much about networking. My brother told me the ip and dns stuff to put in but it still wont work. My brother usually just comes over and sets it up but he has been busy lately. i am on windows xp if that makes a diff. I dont know if ive given enough info but id appretiate any help.

That access point should be set to DHCP so you don't have to specify an IP / DNS / Gateway.

Try enabling DHCP and see what happens.

Well, you need to also set your NIC to send out DHCP requests, so you would set the options under TCP/IP "Obtain ... automatically".
