HP monitors??? Anyone have?

just had my 9 year old CRT die on me so I type this with a borrowed 12"crt. I need a new monitor and want an LCD at least 19" that will be used mainly for internet, gaming, movie and photo viewing. I don't really want to do a monitor online for my own reasons which aren't relevant here. I saw this monitor as I was browsing my local Circuit City and was impressed with the picture. It has something similiar to Sony's Xbrite glossy coating and since I have low light computer room I'm not worried about glare. HP 19" widescreen http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-19...oductDetail.do
I'm curious how the widescreen effects gameplay and movie viewing. The only thing that makes me a bit put off is the one year warranty vs other manufacturers 3 year.
Any thoughts or recommendations on a monitor for about the same money? Thanks

At my employment we only support HP business products as you know; while they produce a nice picture they are not up to par with other brands such as Samsung, ViewSonic etc until you get to the higher end models which we have been purchasing more lately.

I personally do not have any experience with the monitor you linked to, but if you think it looks good at the store, you can always purchase it and return it if you find you don't like it. If you have the option, use DVI to DVI for the connection. Three year warranties are standard for HP.

You will probably use 1280x720 for resolution on your monitor, when playing a game that only supports 4:3 it will either stretch the game or add the black letterbox bars on the left and right hand side- the same goes for 4:3 movies.

As you may or may not know, movies are filmed in different aspect rations, 1:78.1 (TV shows), 1:85 (TV shows, some movies), 2:35 (most movies), 2:40 (all 1080p HD movies)- the only widescreen aspect you won't see the letterbox bars are with 1:78.

The HP monitors are pretty decent. I'm currently using a 20.1in widescreen Dell, which is excellent. Dell also has a really pretty decent return policy-you might want to see if one of their Dell retail stores are in your area.

I looked at some Samsungs which is what I set out to buy, but was really turned on by the sharp picture of the HP. Not sure if I really want to go with widescreen or not though...I don't really have modern games. I have to use analog connection until I upgrade. Any recommendations for under 250? I would like to keep it instore so Best Buy, Circuit City and Staples are best bets. Thanks for your help.

You may not now, but you may in the future; always look to what you could use it for.

Thanks for the help. I bought a 20.1" widescreen HP w2007. I am quite happy with the results although my weak graphics card is very apparent now. Thanks again.

I almost seem to remember someone saying that HP monitors (or maybe Dells) were just samsung monitors and I love samsung's LCDs. Either way I've heard good things about hp monitors
