Group Policy for Users

I need to edit a group policy for three certain users, but NOT the computers. I know how to change the policy for the certain computer, but there seems to be no way of changing policy for users only. How do I do this?

You would have to create an OU for those users and than apply the custom GP.

Could you put that into Idiot-Speak please? I'm still learning about networking and the server environment

Sure. You will have to create a new Oraganizational Unit in AD Users and Computers, than you would move the user accounts into that OU. Create add or create a group policy to that OU, make sure that the default GP is applied to that OU as well unless the two adversly & directly affect eachother.

Nice. A coupld of things though:
  • I only want the users to be able to access Microsoft Office programs and Internet Explorer through the start menu - how would I get this?
  • I would like to force every user on the domain to use a certain wallpaper - is there any way of doing that?
Thanks for the help - I am very appreciative.

Both of those can be easily achieved via GP. You should take a look at each of the options. If you can't find them, let me know.

If you have Windows Server 2003, you should look into installing the Group Policy Management snapin. It's very powerful and easy to used.

For the wallpaper: User Config | Admin Templates | Desktop | Active Desktop. You will find with certain things you will have to create a registry script and have it applied to the computer each time it gets logged on which you can do through the GP.
