first off, is there a slot in the laptop for a drive to be inserted into? if there is, then i believe you can order one from the manufaturer's website. those internal cd drives are specific to the model or type of laptop so you wouldn't be able to find it in a local store.

what you can find at a local store is find an external usb optical drive.

what brand and model is your laptop? i'm not too sure on the prices of an internal disk drive. i have never really looked into that before.

hmm ok i was looking around IBM's site and it looks like they only sale parts for their desktop computers and you have to send in your laptop if you want them to add something.

i'm not 100% on this though, try contacting them through e-mail or their 1-800 number.

O.K. so I think that a IBM ThinkPad 2628-G1U is the same as a ThinkPad A21m...from IBM's website. So I think that anyone of these would work for you. Also if you want a cheap used one you might want to look on eBay. Don't think you would be able to find one at any local store (like Best Buy or something like that).

A cheap external USB cd-rom is probably going to be your best bet-however don't expect to install a OS or boot from the cd-rom.
