My Acer Aspire isn't powering on. No reaction to pressing the power button. No lights on anywhere on the laptop. The green light on the charger is blinking.

It was in sleep mode the last I saw it. I keep it connected to the wall full-time since I don't take it with me on campus much at the moment. I have surge protection in case of spikes and stuff.

Warranty ran out precisely 2 weeks ago. I really hope it's something I can fix, somehow. In the year I've had this thing it's become, well, really important to me.

Have you taken the battery out? put the end of the ac adapter on your tongue, if it's producing a current you will taste a bitter jolt (it's not bad).

The green light on the adapter does light up like normal when it's plugged into the wall socket but not into the laptop. As soon as I connect the adapter into the laptop, the green light on the adapter starts blinking. If memory serves me righ the light is orange when charging and steady green when fully charged.

I took the battery out and reattached DC power, no effect. I tried a power reset as per Acer's instructions (holding power button down for half a minute with adapter and battery detached) but it did not help. I've tried wiggling the adapter cord but that hasn't helped either.

EDIT: I tried touching my tongue with the adapter end and I didn't feel anything. Tried it several times.

It's possible that the adapter is bad. I would purchase a universal adapter and see if it works. What's the wattage on your adapter?

65W, 19V, 3.42 amps.

I took it to the store I bought it from and had them try with another adapter, but it did me no good. For all intents and purposes it seems dead... They'd charge close to a hundred to diagnose it (not fix) and that's not something I am willing to pay for.

Good thing I take weekly backups of my data or this could have been a massive disaster for me.
