Went to use our Vista box (my partner uses it a lot more then me), did updates and rebooted..for some reason I clicked "My Computer", think I was checking to see what game what was in DVD..when I did instead of showing what was in it, all I got was an odd icon..(think of a white piece of paper with the top right corner folded forward and down with an old windows box inside it, lousy description I know it might be the default icon used by windows).
All of the icons for other removeable media had disappeared. I double clicked the icon for the DVD player/writer and nothing happened, so opened it, saw the title, went to Games, clicked it there and it opened and played so it is functional. Took a look in device manager and found nothing with a warning symbol, but since I'm not real sure of what I'm looking at I'm not certain if they're even listed, there is no "media reader" section.

I'm not certain what all other devices should show up (never used them) but from looking at the front of the box it has 4 "ports" with names such as
smart media xd
compact flash
and though I've never used them I know they used to show up under "My Computer"
These all came preinstalled so there's no driver disk anywhere for reinstalling

We have webroot interent security essentials on both of our computers, on the XP one the various removeable media drives show up, on the Vista one it only shows the c drive, recovery drive and DVD RW Drive (E ) Disk_2

I recently purchased a 64 GB Kingston SSDNow drive just to run Windows 7 on it, and I must say I am completely flabbergasted at how fast it now runs.

I mean, it was running fast enough on a 5400rpm 80GB Maxtor drive, but **** - I knew they were fast, but without seeing it myself I just didn't really understand how fast they actually were.

And the fact that there's no moving parts and is therefore completely silent makes me extremely happy. In an Antec P180 Case, my PC is more or less absolutely silent (spoilt a little bit by the fan of my Ati HD4870 Graphics card - but that's quite understandable).

I just wish I could buy a bigger one, but they're far too expensive at the moment.

For those of you with Laptops and SSHD's, just how do you cope with the lack of space?

I'm just glad I have two 1 TB HDD's, as without them, using a SSHD wouldn't be feasible for me, which would be a shame due to their phenomenal speed.
