Maybe. Until all the seats are declared I would not be so sure.

In any case, we will not know until the first no confidence vote call
which can not happen until parliament resumes in November.

true, but you'll see a small benefit at the far ends of your house even
if you're using g. on the other hand, if you live in a small apartment,
it won't matter.

> Let me rephrase my question: do you see a big wifi improvement with
> iphone 4? If you can only use 2.4ghz with iphone 4 is it still a
> significant improvementnover the 3GS?

i don't have an iphone 4, but 802.11n is definitely faster even if it's
restricted to 2.4 ghz, plus you get a whole lot of other benefits in an
iphone 4, in addition to the wifi. also, the cellular radios are
faster, especially on uplink.

Don McKenzie wrote:
> Internode today announces Australia's first true terabyte broadband plan
> 6-Sep-2010
>
> Taking a lead from the over-size T-shirt shelf, Internode's 1000
> gigabyte (GB) XXL Easy Broadband ADSL2+ service drapes its customers in
> a true one-terabyte data quota plan, costing $149.95 a month when
> bundled with NodeLine telephone service.
>
> In a generous overhaul, Internode has doubled the data quota of its
> popular Easy Broadband plan ($49.95 bundled) from 50 GB to 100 GB per
> month and introduced 200GB ($69.95 bundled) and 300GB ($89.95 bundled)
> plans - dubbed respectively S, M and L. For customers with big data
> appetites, Internode provides the 600GB XL plan for $99.95 (bundled) as
> well as the true-terabyte XXL plan.
>
> http://www.internode.on.net/news/2010/09/195.php
>
> more details here:

I'd stick with iinet (who had the first true terabyte plan) rather than
go to internode. Internode are calling it the "first true plan" purely
because they don't make a distinction between peak and off-peak, which
is only a minor inconvenience. The more honest line would have been
"first terabyte plan with no distinction between peak and off-peak".

The main reason for sticking with iinet?

Internode : 1Tb with phone line : $179.95
iinet : 500/500 (1Tb) with phone line : $129.90

I think I'm willing to put up with the minor inconvenience of a split
cap to knock around 30% off of my bill a month. But then I don't need
that sort of volume.

>> Starting with a blank PC, I have added Windows and Office 2003. I
>> have installed all the updates. Now, Avira reports that it has
>> checked over 290,000 files on my PC. How can that possibly be
>> necessary? Where are they
>> all?
>>
>
> Change the option to view system & hidden files - you'll then see
> them.
> "Where are they all?" - on your PC!

I should have said before that there are 30k files in the windows directory.
I also copy the installation CDs onto the PC, so that's another 10k. Another
few 10ks in other directories, eg Program Files and My Docs, but I can only
find a total of under 100k. I am left wondering whether Avira is counting
every entry in the Registry as a file, or going through all the files on the
PC 3 times over? I am pretty sure that it's not checking the other drives
on the network.

But, yes, as Davey said, I installed Windows, so what do I expect? I used to
know what all the files on the Dos disk did. Ever since then, it's been a
mystery.
>>
>> Also of interest: seems that Socket 478 is designed to "pierce" the
>> motherboard--it exists on both sides on my mobo. I just noticed this--
>> I assume it's the Socket 478, not the heat sink, i.e., it's a plastic
>> contraption that exists on both the front and the back of the mobo.
>
>
> Update: I bought a new heat sink and fan today, installed the same,
> and now problem solved. This thread described by situation perfectly,
> see the comment by "Tony":
>
> I may have applied too much thermal paste, because the temperatures
> did not drop as dramatically as I thought...but they're within the
> limits of this chip and without throttling occurring due to high
> temperatures.
>
> Now the only problem I have is that a case fan seems to be giving off
> that ball bearing noise...on occasion. No way you can lubricate
> these, can you? Took a look and they look like you cannot get any
> lubricant in them without shorting out those copper windings.

Glad to hear that you solved the CPU fan problem properly - isn't that better than your Heath Robinson set-
up? :-)
Your case fans are not so urgent, but replacement is trivial - and very cheap. Why not do it?
> Except that during most of the P4 era AMD's processors were superior
> to Intel's in nearly every way (they even invented x86_64) and they
> still have a better design for heatsink mountings.

They also stuck to pin grid array which is, IMHO, far better than LGA.
> My question is, could processor overheating have been the cause of the
> intermittent slowness? I'm reluctant to spend too much time on it if it
> is never going to work properly. It is certainly not just the relatively
> low specs of the machine - I used plenty of this batch at work and they
> are up to the basic web surfing etc we need it for.

The key questions are what type of processor does it have and how much
memory. Some ex-corporate machines only have 512Mb of memory and a
modern OS will struggle with that. If it's 3 years old then the
processor is likely to be a P4 1.8 at least, and that's perfectly
adequate for basic office/web use given enough memory.
