External DVD Writer

I'm currently advising my parents about a DVD writer drive, but as they aren't too tech-savvy I think an external drive might be easiest for them to fit (I live 100's miles away).

I was wondering if anyone here has an external DVD writer and could tell me if it operates in the same way as an internal drive. For example, can you still drag/drop/write files directly within Vista?

I have a Memorex DVD+-RW DL firewire burner for my PC at home-it works just like a regular drive once its plugged in.
I do not recommend using Vista/XP's builtin burning-its slow and error prone. Most of these drives come with a starter version of Nero which is a much more effective program for burning files.

Thanks, that's good news that it works in the same way

I agree and think that Nero is much better, it's just until I can go round and show them how to use it I think they'll probably use the slow way I'm heading up in June and will show them Nero though
