dvd drive woes...wont read dl dvds

I dont know what to do.. I purchased some Dual Layer DVDs to back up my system after my recent hard drive crash. Problem is my system wont even recognize them. My drive is a toshiba sdr5372, I use nero 6.6, with legit keys, and am running xp pro. I have been searching various sites that say It doesnt need any more drivers...but it doesnt recognize them (when I go into properties, it says 0 mb free and 0 mb available. And nero doesnt seem able to create a data dvd in a dvd 9 format ).

Is there someone who might know whats going on?

There are some Nero nuts here, I don't know too much about it. I perfer Roxio myself. Someone else should be able to assist.
