DOS attacks on games servers

Maybe its just me but i cant find the 'news' section anymore

I was playing on halo1 online today, and noticed a lack of players and servers, I thought it was the time of day (theres more in the evenings and night time) but as it turns out, theres a huge attack on all dedicated halo servers been launched recently.

This sucks, as its one of only a few games i know where you dont get auto-kicked for a high-ish ping, and i doubt if there'll be a patch for the servers, as halo1 is 'dead' now in the maker's eyes.

Its doing it by sending malformed packets to the servers, overloading them and causing them to crash, and theres major lagg on most servers about to be crashed too

oh, its effecting other games on the gamespy servers too i heard

I think it's jsut DDOS attacks on gamespy servers in general. I don't see why anyone would target Halo 1 specifically. If its the case of the gamespy servers being attacked, then they should be back up in no time.

On a side note, I remember DDOSing our high school server back in CCNA1 lol. It took 10 minutes to crash the server. We only did it because we were experimenting. The servers were in our hands so we just restarted the thing after we shut off the DDOS.
