I have a homebuild, details in the sig. For some unknown reason the
USB port for the mouse keeps dropping out, staying out for about 5 -
10 seconds, then reconnecting. I hear a ding - dong... then a dong -
ding. If that makes sense. It's been doing it for months, even over a
BIOS upgrade and a complete re-install.

Currently the only USB items commected are the mouse and a 7 port,
powered, D-link USB hub.

Where is the log that will show whats happening please?

You should try the mouse in another PC or another mouse in the PC. You
mention the USB port, is there one bad socket and the others are OK? I
had similar symptoms with a bad connection in my mouse cable, but after
a few weeks (as opposed to months) it got much worse and I had to bin
it.
