Remote desktop sharing across LAN

Hi,
I moved my computers out of the lounge into a downstairs room. It's OK
in there but on evenings and weekends more interesting things happen
in the lounge. So, I want to be able to access and use the desktop of
each of the remote computers from my laptop in the lounge. Can anyone
please suggest the best software for this purpose? By best I think I
mean simplest and most effective. I've used the Remote Desktop Sharing
feature of Netmeeting across the Internet and it was slow in that
situation. Maybe in a LAN environment it would be faster and more
responsive. I thought I'd ask here for advice before diving in.
TIA

If you're using XP then Remote Desktop Connection works fine across a
wired or wireless LAN, I do that here.

There's also RealVNC (http://www.realvnc.com/download.html) which I
have used but found slow.

There is a subtle difference between them. RDC sends sound back to the
controlling PC whereas VNC plays them on the remote PC.

XP Pro, except for the laptop which has XP Home.

Is that the same as the Remote Desktop Sharing in Netmeeting?
I'll do a search.
If so, that's good, as I have some experience of this. Thanks.

I'll have a look at that too.

That probably means a lot for practical purposes. I'll have a think
about that.:-)

Indeed, xp's remote desktop feature is excellent - I use it from laptop
to my desktops in the house - very quick ... I hate the slower responses
from vnc/dameware type remote desktops, they are more suited to remote
support than general use.

Does this mean that your laptop OS is XP Pro? Or are the limitations
with XP Home overcome?

He doesnt need a terminal server ... xp pro has this feature built in -
im using a w2k laptop with rdp to my xp pro desktop upstairs currently
.... yes, its all borrowed from terminal services and is excellent but im
only using the deesktops built in features along with the rdp client
software installed on w2k.

If anything get rid of xp home, upgrade to pro ... I wasnt aware xp home
wouldnt allow you to run the remote desktop client to connect to xp pro
machines, but I dont ever get involved with home - thats enough reason
for me to scrap home in favour of pro.
