Sounds a bit like me except I **** the expense ;-)
I build my own to use quality components that I've always trusted.
So far, so good.........

Yes, quality is v. important - the 2 that I've built are understressed and
on this one, rather than o/c, Cool'n'Quiet is enabled.
I'd have reliability over performance any day, so building in a bit of
spare capability cost a bit more but is worthwhile.

Peter.
You don't understand Newton's Third Law of Motion?
It's not rocket science, you know.

Exactly so. Years ago I bought a ready-made PC but the stuff inside
was cheap and unknown - not to mention the poor quality assembly -
that drove me to build my own and I've never looked back.
Three systems to my credit so far.

Current machine has been running for 2.5 years and last Easter, I
stripped out all the fans and lubricated them with graphite powder
and 3-in-1 oil in readiness for warmer summer days and it's been
running perfectly and quiet ever since.

I've never been near eBay but I hear of a mixed picture w/r/t
rip-offs etc. A friend of mine bought a new Intel processor several
years ago but it never arrived from the seller! Some are lucky,
others not.
