I assume that you mean the Pentium-M processor which was part of the
Centrino package?

Various sources on the web seem to suggest that the raw performance of a
1.6 Ghz Atom is a tiny bit better than a 1.13 Ghz Pentium III-M. In
practice the hyperthreading cabability of the Atom might be an advantage in
certain situations.
According to these lins both Celeron-M (Dothan-512) at 900 Mhz and not
surprisingly the Pentium-M 740 (Dothan) at 1.6 Ghz are faster than the Atom
at 1.6 Ghz.

The performance of the new Dual-Core Atom 330 seems to be significantly
improved towards the level of the Pentium-M 740, though at the cost of
higher energy consumption compared to the Atom 230:
