I used a Sunsway/ST Lab Broadband Router, Model No. IPR-4P-EUR-1 while
my son was at home, nicking all my NTL bandwidth. It worked perfectly
well. Cost me £15.32 from Komplett in March 2004 and is not ADSL
aware.

Only drawback is that it came with a large/heavy combined
transformer/plug unit that sticks out nearly 4". It doesn't need
separate support but it sure looks like it does.

I've used NTL's cable modem with only occasional problems. These
problems have always been fixed by turning modem and PC off for a
while. Usually, a minute or so is enough but on one occasion a couple
of hours was insufficent but it was working fine in the morning. I
neither know nor care whether the problem was with the cm or their
network.

One thing that appears to be essential - power devices up in sequence
starting from the NTL end working to your PC, i.e. 1. Router; 2.
Modem; 3. PC. Wait for each set of lights to settle down before
switching the next one on. Any time I didn't do it that way, I got
problems.

Regards,
vj

We've got a D-Link wireless router hooked up to our ntl cable modem. Works
flawlessly and doesn't require any specific voodo starting up! I have a
lynksys wireless broadband router kicking around that I could sell to you,
if you're interested (£15 delivered). Paul

No problem - though it is a four port network router besides the wireless
capability!

Paul
