Motherboard Audio: 5.1 or 6 Channel

Hi

Please help me understand the following

My new motherboard, an Abit AG8-3rd Eye has "On board Theatre-class 6
Channels Audio" is this the same as 5.1 surround?

I mistakenly read the motherboard spec as 6.1 audio and purchased a set
of Creative Inspire 6700 6.1 speakers to go with it but I get no
response from the centre middle speaker and the other channels seem
mixed up, I assume this is because I am trying to get a 7 speaker system
working on a 6 channel output.

If 'On board Theatre-class 6 Channels Audio' is the same as 5.1 surround
why do Abit refer to it as 6 channel?

Is there not a setup wizard to make sure the sound is coming out of the
correct speakers?

have you set the outputs go to the correct speakers as mine auto detects but
gets it wrong 9 times out of ten mine is classed as a 6 channel but that's
for a 5.1 setup
