hey
so I just brought home my new samsung 225bw and I am having a bit of a panic because I can't figure out how to set my comp to 1680x1050 resolution ....

no, the option for 1680x1050 isn't there .... it seems I am having the problem of ... when I go to display->settings-advanced->monitor it still says "default monitor". I went into the device manager and there were four default monitors under the monitors tab. I uninstalled them but the display settings was just blank under monitor .... the device manager says that the samsung is there but its not using its drivers which add the 1680x1050 option

hmm, well I did that and it doesn't seem to have changed anything. I did manage to use nvidia's desktop manager to add 1680x1050 as a custom resolution but every time I restart my comp it reinstalls 4 default displays and its still not using the samsung driver

Uninstall all the drivers, the 4 default monitor and the samsung, then re-boot and re-install the samsung drivers.

5 default displays?!!??
![]() I meant, yes 5 default displays. Exactly what I was expecting. We have it right where we want it... Since drivers didn't help, and it loaded a 5th default display, I'm thinking maybe a BIOS problem or a startup conflict. ![]() Now I'm just guessing because I have never heard of this outcome to having the drivers completely removed and re-installed.

Typically 'default display' is fine. Thats what Windows reports any unknown monitor as. However, if you've connected via DVI or VGA the PC can still read the video modes supported by the monitor.
Did you follow the install instructions that were included with the monitor? Typically that installs the driver as well as any color correction utilities that were bundled with it. |
